Drummer Boy
Drummer boys had one of the most important jobs of the war, they even had to clean up after battles. They would carry wounded soldiers and buried the dead ones. The average age of a drummer boy would be about 15 years old, but there were some as young as 8 years old. Because they got so close to real battles, drummer boys would joined the army when they got older. This stopped the need to finding new, inexperienced soldiers. The youngest soldier killed was a drummer boy, Charles King was only thirteen. He had gotten permission from his father to join, he was twelve. On September 17, 1862 he was wounded at the Battle of Antietam and died three days later.
